Ronnie Brown picked up 47 yards on 12 carries, with one touchdown, Thursday night against the Saints. The AP quotes HC Tony Sparano’s reaction. “That’s really what I needed to see because I haven’t seen that,” Miami head coach Tony Sparano said. “I’ve only seen a couple of carries and when you’re only getting a couple of carries, it’s hard to have that kind of swagger. … As he got going, he felt pretty good and it was nice to see him score.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Ricky Williams has been getting a lot of buzz this pre-season, but this game will give Brown a little boost. This is still looking like the two will be splitting carries. We expect Williams to start off the season stronger, but that Brown will get stronger as the season goes on.

ESPN reports, “According to Miami radio station 790 The Ticket, which is in Johnson’s hometown, the receiver has legally changed his last name to Ocho Cinco.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Although this has no fantasy relevance (unless you can’t find him on your league’s draft board under his “old” name), it’s just too nutty not to throw out there.

The AP reports, “Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall’s suspension for personal conduct violations has been reduced to one game, down from the original three.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Great news for Marshall here. This will also be a lift for Cutler. Marshall has looked great in pre-season. He will now be out until week two, but should be a stud WR1 the rest of the way.

ESPN reports, “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers aren’t ready to write Cadillac Williams off for the entire 2008 season. The Bucs placed the running back on the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday afternoon, meaning Williams won’t be available for the first six games. After that, a three-week window opens where Williams can begin practicing and the Bucs will have to decide whether to activate him or put him on the injured reserve list for the remainder of the season.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Williams isn’t someone you want to take in your draft, but we’ll keep an eye on him for you to let you know if he’s going to make it back onto the field this year.

The Indianapolis Star reports, “Peyton Manning practiced today. And I saw him. And he looked like the same, old Peyton in some throwing drills, dropping back, running out a fake off a pitch. And he wasn’t wearing a knee brace on either knee.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Good news for Manning and the Colts. Coach Dungy was still uncertain whether Manning will be ready for the season opener, but this is certainly a step in the right direction.

ESPN reports, “a source told ESPN.com’s John Clayton on Monday that the wide receiver has a partially torn labrum in his left shoulder.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Johnson’s shoulder “strain” is reportedly more serious than originally reported. He is still expected to play this season; however, further injury could result in the need for season ending surgery. Johnson should still be considered an elite WR1, but with more risk than before.

The AP reports, “Rather than give Matt Ryan a few games to watch from the sideline, the Falcons decided on Sunday to throw the rookie into the fire as their starter.” Full story here.
Monster Take: Rookie QB’s typically struggle when they are thrown right in to the starting line-up. This decision could put a slight damper on WR Roddy White’s value. We’ll keep an eye on it for you.

Monster Take: No further details have been provided. We’ll update you as the information comes out.

Raiders wide receiver, Javon Walker, caught 4 passes for 60 yards in the Raiders pre-season game against Arizona.
Monster Take: Walker has had a bad camp and pre-season to this point. However, this effort gives hope that Walker and JaMarcus Russell can connect this year.
